How to Clean the Leather Strap on Your Watch

How to Clean the Leather Strap on Your Watch

Cleaning the leather strap on a watch calls for gentleness and consistency: a slightly damp cloth to remove surface dust, air-drying away from any direct heat source, and the occasional application of a suitable leather conditioner. These simple steps go a long way toward preserving the suppleness and appearance of an interchangeable leather strap.

Removing dirt without damaging the material

Quality leather should be cleaned sparingly. A soft cloth, lightly dampened with clean water, is enough to lift away dust and traces of perspiration built up on the surface. Excess water should be avoided, as it can cause the leather to warp or stiffen as it dries, as should household products, too harsh for a natural material that calls for a gentle touch.

Conditioning the leather to preserve its suppleness

Like skin, leather needs to be nourished from time to time so it doesn't dry out or crack. A specific balm or cream, applied sparingly and left to absorb, restores the strap's original suppleness. Done once or twice a year depending on how often the watch is worn, this simple step noticeably extends the strap's lifespan. A few suitable care accessories make this step easier without any risk to the material.

Avoiding water and direct heat

Leather is particularly wary of two things: prolonged moisture and direct heat. It is best to remove the watch before any activity involving water, and never to dry a wet strap near a radiator or in direct sunlight, which speeds up drying out and weakens the stitching.

Knowing when to replace a strap

A strap that cracks, splits, or permanently loses its suppleness despite proper care deserves to be replaced rather than forced. This is precisely the benefit of an interchangeable system, drawn from the craftsmanship of our workshop, which allows this wear part to be renewed without touching the case or the movement.

If in any doubt about the condition of a strap or a watch, it is always possible to contact our customer service, or to inquire directly with our after-sales service for advice suited to your model.
